Forbes Lake in New South Wales

My alarm painfully went off at 4am. At 4:55am we pulled away from the driveway. 10min later, we pulled into a servo! We had blown a fuse for the dash lights. The first Patrol casualty of the trip! This problem was not alien to us, however this time we found the culprit for the short, a disintegrated wire for the rear right indicator! With a little magic we were off again!

10 hours later, we arrived at Forbes Lake in New South Wales. A lovely spot for a chance to stretch our legs and have a play! While Princess slid gracefully on the flying fox, my bum dragged a trench in the tanbark!!! Laughing uncontrollably, I took my tanbark filled jeans under a tree to literally watch some old parrots and force myself to relax!

The Forbes Lake park was very picturesque. The old De Havilland Vampire Single Seat Fighter Bomber stood proud on the backdrop of the Forbes Lake fountain. Bullet holes still left wounds in it's windscreen however Princess clearly wasn't interested in the history of the plane. She pulled me back to the park telling me the plane didn't matter because it was broken anyway!

Dubbo River was the destination for dinner however our dash light fuse had blown again. This time leaving us stranded on the Newell Highway. We had two options, get a torch for a dash light (which we have painfully done before) or fix the shorting wire. After a good 45 min, a curious policeman and a beautiful sunset, another indicator wire was fixed and we were off to Coonabarabran where we stayed the night.

Try saying Coonabarabran out loud! Pronouncing Coonabarabran is difficult! They are not 100% certain what the town is named after, however they have certainly made a name for themselves as the astrology capital of Australia. They have telescopes open to the public at Warrumbungle Observatory and I'm kicking myself we didn't have more time to discover the stars, however the next day would sail across on a ferry to Fraser Island!
