Lest we forget – Fort Nepean, a place to revisit Australian War history
Do you enjoy history or the beach more? You can enjoy both at Fort Nepean, a historical landmark in Portsea, Victoria. Location: Portsea, Victoria At the southernmost point of Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, Fort Nepean is a beautiful spot to wander through war relics and memorabilia. The fort allows you to see the engine rooms, gun shields, marketing and advertisements to recruit soldiers as well as the rugged cliffs leading out into the Port Phillip Heads Marine National Park in Bass Strait and the hint of Queenscliff in the distance. The historical landmark in Portsea Victoria is rich in history as the first Australian Shots were fired there during both WWI and WWII, however many reports suggest most of the fire rained down on allied fleets. A great weekend or a day trip, at 1.5 hours’ drive from Melbourne, Port Nepean is a beautiful place rich in history and culture not to be missed.
