Travel to experience Cape Le Grand National Park

Lucky Bay Cape Le Grand National Park

Have you seen white sand which clumps together like Flubber? If not, you can experience it yourself at Cape Le Grand.

Location: Cape Le Grand is 631km South East of Perth and a perfect beach stop over at the end of the Nullarbor with the relaxing coastal drive showing the spectacular Recherche Archipelago Nature Reserve and views of Cape Arid National Park further along the coast.

Top 10 things to see in Cape Le Grand

  1. You must climb Frenchman's Peak, the views are amazing.
  2. Look out for whales off any coastline.
  3. View dolphins playing off Hammer Head.
  4. Spot a kangaroo on Lucky Bay.
  5. Grab a handful of sand on Lucky Bay and throw it up on the air, it makes this awesome alienish sound!
  6. Pretend you are a professional photographer in Thistle Cove.
  7. Drive along the foreshore on the Great Ocean Drive from Esperance to Cape Le Grand.
  8. View the amazing sunset on Twilight Bay.
  9. Listen for the Whistling Rock at Thistle Cove.
  10. Watch the starry skies from your campsite.

The area shows its age as it has been above sea level for more than 200 million years with Frenchman's Peak the second highest point of 262m and a worthwhile walk for a birds eye view the area. Also from the top of the peak, you can view the 4wd tracks, crystal blue beaches as well as experience the great hikes, clean camp grounds and friendly kangaroos in the surrounding areas.

The beaches in Cape Le Grand are all are lined with granite boulders, beautiful white sand and turquoise waters which allow amateur photographers to easier snap the picturesque landscape, however my favourite experiences included viewing the sunset over Lucky Bay, playing with the sand on Rossiter Bay and how could I forget about watching the dolphins and whales play near Whistle Rock and off the shores of Hellfire Bay and Thistle Cove.

Although the area is spectacular the nights can get chilly. Make sure you bring your thermals!
